Research has indicated that “early risers” are often more optimistic, proactive, and have better problem-solving skills.
Waking up with or before the sun can align our biological clock with the earth's natural rhythms, leading to improved mental health and increased productivity.
🌅 Power of a Quiet, Undistracted Morning
Early mornings are often free from the noise and distractions of the day. This serenity offers a golden opportunity to focus on personal projects, plan the day ahead, or simply engage in self-reflection. With fewer external interruptions, it's a prime time for deep work and focus.
✅ Strategies to Shift to an Earlier Wake-Up Time
- 🛏️ Gradually Adjust Your Bedtime: Adjusting your bedtime gradually can help you wake up earlier without feeling groggy. Aim to shift by 15 minutes every few days until you hit your target wake-up time. Additionally, establish a calming evening routine, limit screen time before bed, and ensure your sleeping environment is conducive to rest.
- 😴 Balancing Early Mornings with Adequate Sleep: Waking up early shouldn't come at the expense of sleep. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep, as recommended for adults. If you're waking up at 5 am, for instance, ensure you're in bed by 9 or 10 pm. Remember, the quality of your wakefulness depends heavily on the quality of your sleep.
- 🌞 Expose Yourself to Morning Light: Natural light exposure in the morning helps regulate your circadian rhythm and promotes alertness. Spend time outside or open your curtains as soon as you wake up to signal to your body that it's time to be awake.
- 🙅♂️ Limit Evening Stimulants: Reduce caffeine and heavy meals in the evening, as these can interfere with your ability to fall asleep and maintain a quality sleep throughout the night.
- 🧘♂️ Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine: Develop a calming pre-sleep routine that signals to your body that it's time to wind down. Avoid screens an hour before bed, engage in relaxing activities like reading or gentle stretching, and keep your bedroom conducive to sleep.
🕺🏻 My Personal Experience
Ever since I was 15 or so, my biggest worry in life was that I wouldn’t be able to make enough money to provide for my future family. I’ve ALWAYS had that stressor even when I didn’t need to, and that has motivated me to be an early riser pretty consistently.
I have always used stress to propel me into performing and being better. I think the best way to develop that attribute is to put yourself in stressful situations constantly and just learn how to co exist with stress and anxiety.
“If you’re not stressed as an entrepreneur, you’re not doing it right”. Anyone can wake up early. Of course there are exceptions like sleep problems, but typically if you say you’re not a “morning person”, it’s just a fun way of saying you're lazy haha.
