Research has shown that our brains can only maintain optimal focus for around 20 to 25 minutes.

Taking regular breaks can help “reset” the brain, preventing fatigue and allowing you to focus at a higher level.

An “Active Break” is a short pause you take to engage in physical movements or exercises.

🕺🏻 How I Have Implemented This

🏃 Activities Considered as Active Breaks

  1. 🎥 Organization or Customization of Gear:

Organizing your gear and workplace or customizing it serves as an amazing and a personal favorite activity for me. It reduces clutter, promotes focus, and helps in personalizing your environment which fosters a sense of ownership, inspiration, and motivation. I love to play music and make it a fun activity that also happens to be very productive at the same time!

  2. 🙆 Stretching and Mobility Exercises: Dedicate a few minutes to stretching your muscles and improving flexibility. This can help alleviate tension and improve posture, which is especially important for creators who spend extended periods at their desks.

  3. 🚶 Quick Walk or Jog: Take a brisk walk or jog around your workspace or outside to get your blood flowing and recharge your mind. Movement can help combat sedentary behavior and boost your energy levels.

  4. 🫁 Breathing Exercises: Engage in deep breathing exercises to relax your mind and reduce stress. Techniques like box breathing or 4-7-8 breaths can help you clear your thoughts and refocus.

  5. 🧘‍♂️ Desk Yoga: Practice a few yoga poses or stretches at your desk to release tension and increase energy. Simple poses like seated twists, forward folds, and shoulder stretches can be done in a confined space.

  6. 🧠 Mindful Meditation: Dedicate a short break to mindfulness meditation. Close your eyes, focus on your breath, and let go of any mental clutter. This can help you return to your tasks with increased clarity and focus.

  7. ✍️ Doodle or Sketch Break: If you're a visual creator, take a break to doodle, sketch, or brainstorm ideas on paper. This can stimulate your creative thinking and provide a change of pace from digital work.

  8. 🎶 Music Break: Listen to your favorite music or a calming playlist during your break. Music can have a positive impact on your mood and help you relax.
